The Dubai World Cup 2016 – Race Guide

Dubai prepares to welcome back the world’s most prestigious horse race, the Dubai World Cup, with yet another record breaking purse of US$30 million up for grabs.

The thoroughbred race day was held in Dubai way back in October 1981 when a group of thoroughbreds met in the soon to be world famous race meeting. That first meet consisted of three races – a mile, a sprint and the longest race of the day – the mile and a half.

That was the beginning of a proud tradition of horse racing in Dubai and it was not long before the first Dubai World Cup was run. In 1996 this became reality when a prize purse worth US$4 million was up for grabs.

Today what has become the world’s richest horse race has also become the premier social and cultural event in Dubai and one of the most prestigious places to be seen on the global horse racing circuit.

This year the excitement will center around the Meydan Racecourse in Dubai and the day to diarize is the last Saturday in March – March the 26th.
